The Akwatia District Police Command has launched an investigation into an alleged assault on Alhaji Masawudu Osman, Third Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), during a by-election in Akwatia on Tuesday, September 2, 2025.

The incident is said to have occurred at the Akwatia Lorry Station in the Vawaso Electoral Area, following a clash between Alhaji Masawudu and the security detail of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Vice Chairman, Chief Sofo Azorka.

Narrating his ordeal, Alhaji Masawudu explained that the altercation happened while he was addressing journalists near the Akwatia Zongo area, where he had been assigned to monitor the polls.

In a statement released on Thursday, September 4, 2025, the Eastern South Regional Police Command confirmed that the NPP executive had been issued with a medical form for treatment, which will form part of the ongoing investigation.

The case has since been transferred to the Regional Command for further action.

The statement, signed by DSP David Fianko Okyere of the Public Affairs Unit, assured the public of a thorough and impartial inquiry.
