Politicians promise a lot but most lack the will to lead – Ken Agyapong

Flagbearer aspirant of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kennedy Ohene Agyapong has lashed out at his colleague statesmen as he minced no words sharing his candid thoughts on the state of politics in Ghana.

In an exclusive interview with Happy 98.9 FM’s Sefah Danquah, he indicated that most Ghanaian politicians are good at delivering imaginary promises and barely little come across as men of their words.

“A lot of Ghanaian politicians promise a lot of things to their delegates, and with all due respect, I think most of them don’t have the practical experience to lead a constituency. Most of them have read books and theories but don’t have that technical know-how. So, for me, most of them just talk because when you look at what they have done since being elected, it is laughable,” Ken Agyapong said.

Drawing from his extensive international experiences, having visited numerous countries worldwide, spanning Europe, Asia, America and various African nations, Ken Agyapong emphasized the significance of practical knowledge in fostering development.

He asserted, “I’ve toured several factories in these countries and witnessed firsthand how they operate. This experience has convinced me that Africa, including Ghana, has the potential to excel too. That’s why, as a businessman, I’m committed to doing my part to contribute to this growth.”

However, the experienced politician and businessman urged his fellow politicians to consider not only what is done abroad but also the culture and mindset of the people before implementing ideas to boost employment rates in Ghana. He believes that a holistic approach, taking into account the unique characteristics of Ghana, is essential for true progress and development.

Kennedy Ohene Agyapong’s bold statements in this interview shed light on the need for practical experience and a nuanced approach to politics and development in Ghana.

He is poised to lead the ruling NPP party in the 2024 elections as the party is set to host its Super Delegates Congress on Saturday, August 26, 2023, across the 16 regions in the country.
