Sanitation Minister, Lydia Seyram Alhassan has called for a non-partisan approach to tackling illegal mining, describing galamsey as a serious existential threat to Ghana.

She warned that future generations will judge all Ghanaians harshly if they fail to unite and take action to protect the nation’s water bodies and forest reserves.

The Minister stressed that posterity will not distinguish between political parties but will view this generation as one that, driven by greed and selfish interests, failed to come together to address this critical issue.

She further stated that the time to take a different course is now, urging all stakeholders to act for the collective good.

According to her, the issue affects everyone and goes beyond politics. She emphasized that the fight against illegal mining in water bodies requires the support of all.
