President John Dramani Mahama has inaugurated the newly expanded Tema Port after the successful completion of phases one and two of the project.
The expansion, according to the Office of the President, is a landmark public–private partnership between Meridian Port Services (MPS), APM Terminals, and the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority. A social media statement indicates that it was fully financed through private investment.
President Mahama noted that the initiative demonstrates Ghana’s capacity to harness private capital for transformative national development.
Describing the upgraded facility as “one of the most ambitious infrastructure developments in Africa’s maritime sector,” the President said the project reinforces Ghana’s vision of becoming the strategic gateway to West Africa’s maritime and logistics corridor.
The expanded Tema Port is now touted as the preferred first-call terminal for major shipping lines, with its enhanced capacity and cutting-edge systems, entering the Gulf of Guinea.
