President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed the crucial role journalists play in Ghana’s democracy, noting that the country’s constitution dedicates an entire chapter to their protection.
Speaking at the 29th Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Media Awards on Saturday, November 8, President Mahama emphasized that his administration would ensure that anyone who attacks journalists faces justice.
“In our democracy, and that is why it has dedicated an entire chapter to journalists,” he said.
He further warned that attacks or intimidation against members of the press would not be tolerated under his leadership.
“My administration will not tolerate any form of intimidation or attacks on journalists,” President Mahama stated, underscoring the government’s commitment to upholding press freedom and protecting those who report in the public interest.
