The Head of Public Affairs at the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), Gilbert Ankrah has warned people who dump their household waste into public litter bins provided by the AMA to desist from such act.

He was speaking in an interview on the Happy Morning Show aired on Happy 98.9FM when he said: “The waste we have in the bins are not ‘litters’. People dump their household waste into these bins and that is not the purpose. The purpose is for one to dump a litter when in public. We see organic waste in these bins and we know that it is not possible for people walking in town to be carrying such”.

He added that the bins were provided by the Ministry of Sanitation to ensure that the challenge of littering in our cities will be addressed. “We have brought the public litter bins to control the littering in the city”, he added.

The Accra Metropolitan Assembly has installed public litter bins across many parts of the city which is expected to curb littering in the city.
