Chairman of the referees appointment committee, Eddie Kormieteh Doku is confident that his outfit will deal with the supposed referee Nuhu Liman’s assault during Berekum Chelsea 1-1 draw with Dreams FC over the Sunday.
In the aftermath of Berekum Chelsea stalemate with Dreams FC in Week Two of the Ghana Premier League at the Golden City Park last Sunday, reports went rife that centre referee Nuhu Liman was assaulted by the home fans.
Several leading members in Ghana football have condemned the deeds of the Berekum supporters, with many urging the nation’s football governing body to take action against them to serve as a deterrent in the subsequent league games.
And speaking with Ohene-Bampoe Brenya on Happy FM’s Anopa Bosuo Sports, Eddie Doku slammed the actions of the Blues fans and called on the FA to take serious action.
“I thought Ghana football had grown past these kinds of incidences. We will work on it as quickly as possible,” Doku told Happy FM.
“I’ve been told the penalty that was awarded against them in Dwarfs last week wasn’t the best but that’s football. It could be a genuine mistake but such things happen even in the European games we revered.”
“We have to respect each other in the game. You have no reason to call each other names, how can you label someone’s father armed robber. It’s about time we bring decency in our football.”
“Football is a game passion since one has lost, people will definitely complain you can understand some of these but to go the extent of taking the laws into your hands is wrong that’s why we have ban some of the refs and reprimanding some of them. We will look at the video, the match review panel will meet on it, will deal with it appropriately and should we find out that the ref erred, the law will take its cause.”
