A tragic stampede at the El-Wak Sports Stadium in Accra has claimed the lives of six potential recruits during the Ghana Armed Forces’ 2025/2026 recruitment exercise on Wednesday, November 12, 2025.

According to a statement issued by the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) and signed by Captain Veronica Adzo Arhin, Acting Director General of Public Relations, the incident occurred around 6:20 a.m. when a large number of applicants reportedly breached security protocols and rushed through the gates ahead of the scheduled screening.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the sudden surge of applicants triggered the fatal stampede, leaving six dead and many others injured.

The injured are currently receiving emergency medical attention at the 37 Military Hospital.

“The Ghana Armed Forces deeply regrets to inform the general public of this tragic incident,” the statement read, adding that medical teams are working tirelessly to stabilise affected individuals while arrangements are being made to notify the families of the deceased.

The Armed Forces extended its deepest condolences to the bereaved families and wished the injured a swift recovery, assuring that further updates would be communicated as investigations continue.
