South Africa’s ambassador to France, Nathi Mthethwa, has been found dead outside the Hyatt Hotel in Paris.
According to reports from Paris, Mthethwa’s wife alerted police after receiving a “worrying message” earlier in the evening.
Authorities later discovered his body near the hotel following a search.
South Africa’s Foreign Ministry confirmed awareness of the incident and said a formal statement would be issued once more details are available.
Mthethwa, 58, was appointed ambassador to France in February 2024.
His sudden death has prompted shock and concern across diplomatic circles.
