Veteran Ghanaian coach Joseph Emmanuel Sarpong, says the Minister for Youth and Sports Mustapha Ussif must put in much effort if his target is to win the Africa Cup of Nations title.

The Sports Minister met the Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) on Wednesday at the Ministry when the FA paid a courtesy call on him.

Mustapha Ussif tasked the GFA to win the 2022 AFCON to be held in Cameroon.

Coach Sarpong speaking in an interview on Happy 98.9FM on whether the mission set by the Sports Minister is achievable, stated that only with a conscious effort from the government as well as the technical team can the dream materialize.

“The only head of state who has been able tell the team to go for the cup is Rawlings. A lot of Sports Ministers have made this declaration but it has proved futile”, he told Odiasempa Kwame Oware on Wamputu Sports.

“Currently the team we have is not capable of winning the Cup. I have watched the other national teams and with a little effort devoid of poor team selection, stability and others we can win unless we address these issues”.

In my opinion, let tell the Sports Minister that we have heard numerous promises and tasks of winning the Afcon title from previous ministers. He has to put in much effort if he wants to win the trophy”, he added.
