The Total Family Health Organisation (TFHO) on Friday launched Ebony condom packaged with lubricants and the first of its kind in Ghana and sub Saharan Africa; with a call on the Ghanaian media to promote safe sex through their programmes.

TFHO is a local non-profit social marketing organisation working to improve the health of people throughout the country.

With the tagline, “Ghana’s most pleasurable condom,” Ebony condom is available in four flavours vanilla, strawberry, peppermint and has a feminine appeal.

They are accessible via a large network of pharmacies, over-the-counter medicine sellers, supermarkets, corner shops, pubs, several e-commerce portals and strategically located condom vending machines across the country.

The Board Chair of TFHO, Prof. Augustine Ankomah called on Ghanaians to patronise Ebony Condoms because of its ability to prevent Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs) as well as unintended pregnancies.

” Today marks our first product launch and I am proud of it. Ebony Condom will perform both functions of planning and preventing STDs without compromising on desired pleasure.”

Prof. Ankomah therefore, urged Ghanaians to patronise their own, get value for money and gain the pleasure desired.

He also thanked the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) the funding sponsor of the condom.

Elizabeth Williams, the Health Systems Strengthening Lead for USAID/Ghana
on her part called on the media to give support to matters of reproductive health in their reportage.

” I know issues of reproductive health doesn’t make the headlines but I hope tonight ignite the passion in the media to give the needed attention to reproductive health related issues.”

She reiterated why it’s important to promote the use of contraceptives in the country.

“low use of modern contraceptive methods lead to unplanned pregnancies, unsafe abortions and higher overall maternal mortality.”

She added that USAID will continue to work with the government of Ghana and the private sector to ensure that contraceptive options are available.

She expressed pride in USAID’s investment in Ebony condoms.

TFHO believes Ebony Condom’s silicon base will prevent leakages and had been positioned to be accessed at all places at all times.

The condom some patrons at the launch say, was a welcomed Development which will resonate well with Ghanaians particularly in this time where there have been increased number of people having STDs.

The launch which took place at the Fantasy Dome, on Friday October 28th 2022 had YFM’s Mz Orstin as the official DJ for the night.
