Ghana’s men’s relay team have reacted to their disqualification and performance in Heat 2 of the ongoing 2024 Olympic Games relay event.

Team Ghana who finished 6th in the race with a time of 38.62s were disqualified from the race because of a baton change between Abdul Rasheed Saminu and Benjamin Azamati.

The team made up of Abdul Rasheed Saminu, Benjamin Azamati, Ibrahim Fuseini and Joseph Paul Amoah reacted, with Fusieni stating that this was their worst ever performance as a combined unit.

“I think this was our worst performance ever. We’re going to work on it and come out stronger,” he said.

Joseph Paul Amoah on the other hand said the stadium was too loud and they were not able to use it to their advantage.

“The stadium was loud, but instead of using it as an advantage, I think it kind of broke us. We couldn’t hear our calls, but we did our best.”

Benjamin Azamati added that” “Overall, no excuses. It was not a good race for us. We know we can do better. We just have to perform better.”

Abdul Rasheed Saminu who started the race for team Ghana explained why the baton change between him and Azamati didn’t go on smoothly.

“I think I missed the hand of Azamati on the first call so I brought it back but there’s no excuse. We did our best but it is what it is.”
