Bayer Leverkusen have become Bundesliga’s first ever invincible champions in a historic campaign under Xabi Alonso.

Leverkusen beat FC Augsburg 2-1 on Saturday on the final day to see them go 34 games unbeaten throughout the entire campaign.

Victory has come on 28 of those occasions, with Alonso’s side sealing the title as early as mid-April to end Bayern Munich’s 11-year reign.

But they went one step further on the final day against Augsburg to make history in the German top-flight, with their unbeaten run in all competitions this season extending to an incredible 51 matches.

No side in Europe’s top five leagues have won an Invincible league title since Arsenal lifted the Premier League in 2004 when they won 26 games and drew 12.

Leverkusen have won 82.4 per cent of their Bundesliga matches this season compared to Arsenal claiming victory in just 68.4 per cent of their Premier League fixtures in the 2003/04 campaign.

The German side are also unbeaten in the DFB-Pokal and Europa League, whereas the Gunners were defeated in the FA Cup, League Cup and Champions League.

Next is the Europa League final against Atalanta on Wednesday night before the DFB-Pokal final against 1. FC Kaiserslautern three days later, which could see them win a treble in a stunning unbeaten run of 53 matches across all competitions.
