The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Media, Arts and Communication (UniMAC), Professor Eric Opoku Mensah, has reaffirmed the university’s position as Ghana’s leading institution for media and communications. He made the statement on Thursday, January 22, 2026, while welcoming a high-powered delegation from YFM, Ghana’s No.1 urban and youth media brand, as part of efforts to strengthen collaboration between academia and industry.

“Our students begin practical work early, with many launching businesses and building influence even before graduation,” Professor Opoku Mensah said. “UniMAC’s strength lies not in size, but in our capacity to connect meaningfully with industry. We are proud that YFM and the GMA Group have chosen to partner with us.”

The delegation was led by Mr. Ernest Boateng, Group Chief Executive Officer of Global Media Alliance (GMA), YFM’s parent company, and included Dr. Timothy Karikari, Director of Global Media Alliance Broadcasting Company (GMABC); Erskine Amo Whyte, Programmes Manager at YFM; and Brownberry, host of the RyseNShyne show. Also present were YFM alumni currently excelling within the organisation, including Reginald Tetteh (Reggie Reg), crowned YFM’s Best Employee for 2025; Philip Nii Ankrah (Adjelebi); and Roxanne Quaye, Sales Executive at YFM.

Professor Opoku Mensah described the visit as the first of its kind by a major media brand during his tenure and underscored the importance of aligning academic instruction with industry realities. “Such collaborations better prepare students for the professional world while contributing significantly to Ghana’s creative economy,” he added.

Mr. Boateng praised UniMAC for its role as a key source of talent for YFM and the wider GMA Group, noting that the partnership has consistently provided quality human resource for the GMA group. He further revealed plans for YFM and the GMA Group to collaborate with UniMAC by leveraging the university’s expertise and resources, alongside industry insights, particularly in emerging areas such as the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in media and communications, to strengthen student capacity.

Other UniMAC leaders present included the Pro Vice-Chancellor, Professor Winston Kwame Abroampa; Acting Registrar, Dr. Obaapanin Adu Oforiwaa; Director of Finance, Mr. Francis Obeng; and Assistant Registrar, Mr. Robert Dadzie, all of whom expressed support for the initiative.

The visit marks a key step in deepening industry–academia partnerships, bridging the gap between academic training and professional media practice, and ensuring that students are better prepared to excel in Ghana’s dynamic media landscape.
