Use this period to educate yourself - Abel Manomey to local players

Dreams FC forward Abel Manomey has advised Ghanaian players to cease this period of football suspension to educate themselves as there is no clear picture as to when football will return in Ghana.

The Ghana football association Executive Council on Tuesday June 30 reached a consensus to cancel the 2019/20 football season following the disruption of the football calendar due to the COVID-19 pandemic. What it means is that, there has not been any competitive football in three months and there will be no football for the next months ahead till a decision is made.

According to the FA, they engaged CAF, FIFA and government of Ghana on the way forward of the suspended season but there was no option than to declare the current campaign null and avoid due to the restrictions that have been imposed on contact sports specifically football.

Some local based players have questioned the decision to cancel the season with the view that, life will be unbearable for them within this period of football hibernation. Dreams FC forward Abel Manomey is one of such players who feels, government of Ghana has not done enough to help the players.

However, despite his disappointment on the league’s cancellation, Manomey in an exclusive interview with Kumasi-based YFM advised his colleague players to grab the moment to improve themselves in the arena of education.

“I think this is a beautiful time for domestic football based players to reflect on their future because for three years, football in Ghana has not been consistent”. He said.

“At the age of 40, it’s like death for footballers, that’s life after footballer that’s where it begins so I want to urge all players to have a plan B of their lives.

“If they want to become coaches, this is the time they can enroll, they shouldn’t wait for them to finish their career before they become coaches.

“I will also encourage them to add education to it and education around the sports field, there are so many avenues like sports management, physiotherapy and these universities are ready to enroll them so that, they can represent the schools at the Ghana University Games

“So I want to beg them that, they should have a plan B about the future because there is life after football and if you keep on hoping, just like the tortoise journey, we will by all means get to our destinations.” He added

The former Great Olympics star joined Dawu based Dreams FC on a two year deal in April 2020 while football was in suspension.
