The Volta Regional Health Directorate of the Ghana Health Service has confirmed the arrest and detention of one of its drivers, Mr. Godsway Kwaku Dogbey, in connection with the alleged unlawful possession or control of suspected narcotic substances.
In a press release dated January 25, 2026 and signed by Dr. Emmanuel Atsu Dodor, Volta Regional Director of Health Service, the Directorate said its attention was drawn to a viral news item concerning the incident and deemed it necessary to clarify the matter.
According to the statement, on Friday, January 23, 2026, the Transport Unit of the Directorate received information that Mr. Dogbey had been arrested and detained at the Volta Regional Police Headquarters in Ho.
The arrest followed reports that he was driving an official vehicle belonging to the Directorate, with registration number GV 2460-14, which was allegedly loaded with items suspected to be narcotic drugs.
Upon receiving the information, Management of the Volta Regional Health Directorate dispatched a team to the Regional Police Headquarters to verify the incident.
The Police subsequently confirmed the arrest, and the driver is currently in custody assisting with investigations.
The Directorate stated that while the Ghana Police Service continues its investigations, it has also initiated internal processes to constitute a Committee of Enquiry to independently probe the incident.
As part of measures to prevent a recurrence, the Directorate disclosed that steps are being taken to strengthen the monitoring and tracking of all official vehicles under its control.
