The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has expressed disappointment over the GHc 25 million released by government to pay part of its GHc118 million debts owed.

Speaking to the media, the Head of Public Relations John Kapi mentioned that, the GHc25 million released by government to offset its debt is insufficient as it can only pay the amounts owed its technicians.

According to him, the money released by government can barely cover important operational expenses, which include paying technicians to work on important machinery.

“Obviously, the GH¢25 million was just a drop in the ocean as far as the amount of money required for the job we are supposed to do is concerned”.

“We indicated to the minister earlier that we owed our technicians GH¢25 million, which we had to pay before they even started to work on the machines. Besides, there are other operations that we have to do.”

He further explained that, the GHc25 million released by government could be consumed entirely by outstanding payments to technicians, leaving no resources available for emergency operations.

“If we decide to invite the technicians today or even tomorrow, all they are going to ask for is the outstanding payment. And so all of that GH¢25 million will go.”

The West African Examinations Council’s delay in releasing results of the 2024
West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) is due to financial difficulties, which has resulted in widespread frustration among parents and students.

Government released an amount of GHc25 million to WAEC to offset some of its debt and expedite processes to release the 2024 WASSCE results.
