The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of AshantiGold Sporting Club, Emmanuel Frimpong says he side is ready to represent Ghana in the 2021-22 CAF Confederation Cup.

The miners will be representing Ghana in Africa for the second consecutive time following the Ghana Football Association’s decision to cancel the 2019/20 football season due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The decision to cancel the league per the rules allows AshantiGold as the previous holders of the Tier II Special Competition to represent the country in the CAF Confederation Cup.

According to the CEO, they were hoping to secure a spot in Africa during the course of the season until the coronavirus pandemic brought the league to an end.

Speaking in an interview with Ohene-Bampoe Brenya on Happy Sports on Happy 98.9FM he said, “We have been given the opportunity to play in Africa and we will make Ghana proud.

“We are 85 percent ready to play in Africa next season. The team will be strengthened before we go to Africa”.

“We were ready to play the league but because of Covid-19 we must also think about our health”.

He added that government should come to the aid of the club as they go to represent the country in Africa.

“We will need government support as well now that we are going to play in Africa”.

AshantiGold and Asante Kotoko will represent Ghana in the 2021-22 CAF Inter-club competition next season.
