The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Wassa Amenfi East in the Western Region, Raymond Nana Abbah, has clarified that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government is not against mining, but rather advocates for responsible mining practices to protect the nation’s water bodies and forest reserves.
Mr. Abbah noted that some Ghanaians have misunderstood the NDC’s position, believing that the party opposes mining activities. He emphasized that this perception is false, explaining that licensed mining operations bring significant benefits to the country through revenue and job creation.
He further revealed that the government intends to introduce cooperative mining initiatives to create employment opportunities for the youth. “The NDC government will never collapse the mining sector; instead, it will strengthen it through responsible management,” he stated.
The MCE also appealed to residents of Wassa Amenfi East to remain patient and supportive, assuring them that development is part of the NDC government’s core agenda.
The NDC Constituency Chairman for Wassa Amenfi East, Kofi Atokyi, commended the establishment of the Gold Board initiative, describing it as a positive step toward promoting economic growth and national stability.
