We are not trying to make money from the late President’s legacy – Atta Mills Institute

Chief of Staff at the Atta Mills Institute (AMI), Andy Kankam, has rebuked claims the establishment of the AMI is a get rich scheme by its founders.

He describes efforts of founders as believing in the late president and resolving to protect and preserve his legacy.
“We are talking about the legacy of the late Atta Mills and we at the Atta Mills Institute are not trying to merchandise his legacy for money. We will never do that. Our efforts are all about believing in the man and our resolve to protect and preserve the legacy of Atta Mills,” he shared in the Editors’ Take discussion on the Happy Morning Show with Samuel Eshun.

The family of the late President John Atta Mill is vexed about the manner in which his monument is being handled. The late President’s brother, Samuel Atta Mills, does not understand how the grave site of the statesman is being left under the care of the Koku Anyidoho-led Atta Mills Institute.

The Asomdwe Park has come under intense scrutiny over the past few days as the country nears the commemoration of 10 years since John Evans Atta Mills’ passing. In this light, the family has expressed dissatisfaction at the decision of Koku Anyidoho’s team to go ahead with renovation work at the facility without their express knowledge.

They to an extent believe the Atta Mills Institute and its leaders are doing all these to line their pockets and do not care for the interest of the late president.

Andy Kankam called allegations levelled against the AMI by Samuel Atta Mills as unfounded. According to him, the naming calling directed to Koku Ayindoho and the AMI by Samuel Atta Mills is unpalatable, advising the brother of the late President to take notice of the many sacrifices the former made for the late President Atta Mills.

“Regardless of whatever name Samuel Atta Mills called Koku Anyidoho, I ask him (Sam Atta Mills), where was he when Koku Anyidoho resigned from Metropolitan Bank to become Communications Director of the late President?”

Andy Kankam insists the Atta Mills Institute has the same level of rights and interests if not more than anyone else in the preservation of the legacy of the late President.
