Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh has laid out a series of urgent health sector initiatives, calling on stakeholders to rally behind efforts to improve healthcare delivery in Ghana.

Addressing the media at a briefing held on Thursday 21, August 2025 in Accra, he emphasized that he has the mandate to deliver.

“We have a clear mandate to improve the health sector, and we need everyone, especially the players in the sector to come on board”.

He highlighted the rollout of the Mahama Cares initiative, free primary healthcare, and improvements to the National Health Insurance Scheme.

“We are aggressively pursuing free primary healthcare. We must ensure claims at NHIS are paid properly and all of you attest to the fact that we are doing so.”

The minister also announced the upcoming delivery of cervical cancer screening equipment from Telecel and praised the digitization of hospital admissions.

“Today, people sit at home and apply for admission. These are the things we must focus on.”

On disease control, Mr. Akandoh said Ghana is strengthening its response to mpox.

“We have national, regular, and district rapid response teams. Very soon, we’ll be taking delivery of vaccines to integrate into our response mechanisms.”

“We have a lot to deliver. Let’s not be distracted. We will continue to do our best for mother Ghana, he concluded.
