Western Regional Minister urges security agencies to intensify fight against illegal mining

The Western Regional Minister, Joseph Nelson, has called for a stronger commitment from security agencies in tackling illegal mining, emphasizing its severe consequences on water bodies and livelihoods.

During a familiarization tour at the Takoradi Airforce Base, he stressed the urgent need for a collective fight against environmental pollution, highlighting the long-term risks associated with illegal mining activities.

According to him, ignoring the menace would mean choosing destruction over sustainability, as the continuous degradation of natural resources threatens the very survival of communities.

He pointed out that while individuals may prioritize personal gain, their actions have far-reaching implications, affecting not only the immediate environment but also the health and well-being of future generations.

He urged security agencies to enforce regulations within appropriate legal frameworks to prevent lawlessness and ensure that efforts to curb illegal mining yield lasting results.

Mr. Nelson reiterated that safeguarding the environment requires a united front, and security agencies must take decisive steps to combat illegal mining operations.

He called for vigilance and proactive measures to prevent individuals from undermining national efforts to protect the country’s natural resources.
