Where Are They? – GPL can improve if local coaches upgrade- Alhaji Saanie

Former AshantiGold midfielder, Alhaji Saanie, says the standard of the Ghana Premier League can only improve when the local coaches are able to close the gap with the foreign coaches.

According to Saanie, most of the expatriate coaches who come into the country are able to make an impact in the domestic league and their level is way beyond the local coaches.

Saanie who played for AshantiGold and Karela United in the Ghana Premier League attested to the fact that there is a huge gap in the level of coaching between the foreign and local coaches.

He alleged that most local coaches are unfair and do a lot of favoritism in their team selection unlike the foreign coaches who solely rely on hard work.

Speaking in an interview on Happy FM’s Special program “Where Are They” on how the standard of the Ghana Premier League can improve he said,

“If the quality in the league will improve then it must start with the coaching. When the expatriate coaches come in you see the difference and the impact they make. We are all witnesses to this”, he told Ohene-Bampoe Brenya.

“I have played in the league so I know what I am talking about. Most of the local coaches their player selections are always biased and unfair. Unlike the foreign coaches, they are always fair and they select players based on performance and hardwork”, he added.

Saanie mentioned Coach Bashiru Hayford as one coach who frustrated him during his days at AshGold that he had to leave the team to Karela United.
