Women are the pillar of the economy – French Ambassador to Ghana

French diplomat and Ambassador to Ghana, Her Excellency Anne Sophie AVÉ, has enlightened on the importance of Ghanaian women to the economy

Rev. Erskine, interviewing the French Ambassador on Y107.9FM’s Y-Leaderboard Series, asked her why she is willingly leveraging on her role as an ambassador and a development queen (Nkosuo Hemaa) to uplift women both young and old.

She said, “Women here in Ghana are the pillar of the economy so you cannot ignore them. The success of Ghana is based on the fact that everyone has a role and women are pillars of the family. When you go to the market, who are those persons selling? When you go to Jamestown to buy fish at the seaside, who are they? Women. They are the traders so they are the pillars of the economy”.

According to her, women are a huge asset to the economy, hence, it is not about promoting them but more about supporting them as they are doing an great work for the country.

H.E. Anne Sophie Avè is a strong women’s advocate and all through her career, she
has been one to break stereotypes and excel in spaces dominated by men, occupying several managerial positions. She is also very keen on uplifting women and the Ghanaian culture in general.

Due to this, the chiefs and people of Hani in the Tain District of the Bono Region, early last year, installed H.E. Anne Sophie Avè as the Nkosuahemaa (Development Queen) of the town, under a stool name “Nana Benneh III”.

The chieftaincy title, according to the Queen-Mother of Hani, Nana Akua Takyiwaa, was in recognition and appreciation to the Ambassador’s immense contributions towards the development of the town, particularly, promoting the indigenous culture of the local people.
