The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has accused the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) of double standards in the fight against illegal mining, commonly known as galamsey.
According to NPP General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong, the NDC’s claims of being committed to ending galamsey are baseless, considering the worsening situation under their administration.
Addressing a press conference, Mr. Frimpong described the NDC’s posture as hypocritical, noting that the party has failed to make progress despite having full control of state institutions and security agencies.
“When the NDC was in opposition, they argued that it was the NPP’s duty to stop galamsey because we were in power. But now that they are in government, with all the necessary authority, resources, and even support from the judiciary, the problem has only intensified,” he stated.
Mr. Frimpong said the NPP remains open to working with the NDC and other stakeholders to develop a non-partisan, comprehensive roadmap to address the menace once and for all.
