The Ashanti Region’s Council of Zongo Chiefs, led by President Naba Musah Akanbonga, has called on Ghanaians to prioritize peace and uphold democratic values as the December 7 general elections approach.
In a statement released on October 24, the Council urged all electoral stakeholders to foster tolerance and dialogue, ensuring peaceful and transparent elections.
It also encouraged political parties, civil society, and the media to work closely with the Electoral Commission to resolve any issues collaboratively.
“The Council also implores the EC to take the initiative in seeking out such collaborations and to be receptive to constructive criticisms and suggestions that could enhance the electoral process” he said.

*COUNCIL OF ZONGO CHIEFS CALLS ON POLITICAL ACTORS TO REMAIN CALM AND RESPECT THE DEMOCRATIC PROCESSES AHEAD OF DECEMBER ELECTIONS*
As Ghana gears up for the upcoming December 7, 2024 General Elections, the Council of Zongo Chiefs in the Ashanti Region emphasizes the importance of maintaining peace and upholding the democratic processes in the country by all the Political Parties and their supporters.
This year’s elections mark the country’s ninth general elections since the beginning of the Fourth Republic in 1992.
It is therefore crucial for all political actors to understand that the foundation of a thriving democracy lies in peaceful coexistence and respect for the electoral system.
We, as respected leaders of our communities, urge political parties to educate their supporters on the significance of peaceful participation in the electoral process. It is also essential to set a positive example by engaging in constructive dialogue rather than resorting to violence or coercion.
Ghana’s history is marked by successful peaceful elections and democratic transitions, setting a standard for other nations to follow.
Therefore, it is the responsibility of every citizen to safeguard this legacy by promoting unity and understanding among the diverse cultural, religious, political etc groups in the country.
In the spirit of democracy, let us all commit to fostering a culture of tolerance and dialogue, ensuring that the upcoming elections are conducted in a peaceful and transparent manner.
The Council thus advises Political Parties, Civil Society Organizations, and the media at large to actively collaborate with the Electoral Commission (EC) when they encounter problems and strive in good faith to establish agreement on the way forward.
The Council also implores the EC to take the initiative in seeking out such collaborations and to be receptive to constructive criticisms and suggestions that could enhance the electoral process.
