2020/21 Women’s Premier League Wrap-Up: Police Ladies, Sea Lions suffer home defeat, Northern Ladies, Pearlpia Ladies share spoils

The Ghana Women’s Premier Leagues continued this weekend with four local derbies in both the Northern and Southern zone.

The games started on Friday, February 4, 2021, where Northern ladies hosted city rivals, Pearl Pia ladies at the Aliu Mahama Stadium in Tamale. As expected, both teams gave their best hoping to be crowned the queens of Tamale but unfortunately, they split points after 90 minutes of beautiful football.

Pearl Pia ladies’ Zuberu Hiqmah in the 30th minute gave the visitors the lead and Jafar Rahama responded quickly in the second half to make it 1-1 in the 49th minute.

Ampem Darkoa Ladies 3-2 Supreme Ladies


Techiman-based side Ampem Darkoa Ladies managed to beat Supreme Ladies 3-2 at the Ohene Ameyaw Park. Ophelia Serwaa Amponsah got the first goal in the 34th minute for the home team before Juliana Bofowaa equalized for the visitors in the 52nd minute. Supreme Ladies’ Afishata Mohammed in the 60th minute gave the visitors the lead but Patience Kundok swiftly responded with a brace in the 68th and 73rd minute to seal the game for the home team.

Ashtown Ladies 3-0 Fabulous Ladies
The other derby in the Northern Zone was between Ashtown Ladies and rivals Fabulous Ladies. Considering the history between these two teams was one of the biggest games on the league calendar. Fabulous ladies were badly hit by injuries of two of their players and they had ended the game with 9 players within 25 minutes of play remaining.

Ella Oheneba Afriyie registered the first for the home team in the 74th minute before Fidaus Yakubu got her brace in the 83rd and 85th minutes of the game to seal the victory for the home side.

Kumasi Sports Academy 0-1 Prison Ladies
Kumasi Sports Academy welcomed Prisons Ladies at the Okese park in Ejisu with the hope of taming the visitors comfortably but unfortunately, after 90 minutes, the visitors went back to Sunyani with the three maximum points thanks to Abigail Tutuwaah who got the only goal of the encounter in the 59th minute.

Thunder Queens 1-1 Immigration Ladies
At the Tema community 8 park, Thunder Queens drew 1-1 with Immigration Ladies at home. The home side took the lead through their playmaker, Elizabeth Oppong in the 46th minute before Immigration Ladies’ captain, Ruminatu Tahiru’s strike in the 56th minute to equalise.

Sea Lions 1-3 Ladystrikers
Sea Lions suffered another defeat at home to Ladystrikers at the Nduom stadium. Gladys Amfobea gave Ladystrikers the lead in the 10th minute but her jubilation was cut short when Elizabeth Owusu in the 27th minute gave the home side the equalizer. Gladys Amfobea got her second goal in the 69th minute before Suzzy Dede Teye made it 3 for the visitors in the 74th minute.

Police Ladies 1-2 Berry Ladies
Coach Mercy Tagoe’s Berry Ladies beat Police Ladies McDan Town Park to continue their unbeaten run in the league. Faustina Akpo 32nd minute gave the visitors the lead before Victoria Williams Teye of Police Ladies equalizes in the 33rd minute. Thelma Baffour converted a spot-kick in the 61st minute to seal the game for the visitors.

Soccer Intellectuals 0-1 Hasaacas Ladies
Soccer Intellectuals welcomed Hasaacas Ladies at the Adu Yaw-Assasan Park in Ajumako on Sunday afternoon. Black Princesses’ Milot Abena Pokua scored the only goal of the encounter in the 41st minute to give the visitors another away victory.
