As Ghana prepares to go to the polls to elect a new president and parliamentary candidates on December 7, the New Patriotic Party (NPP), National Democratic Congress (NDC) and Progressive People’s Party (PPP) over the weekend took advantage of YFM’s Y Dialogues paltform in Takoradi to detail plans on how they intend to tackle educational issues and unemployment.
The event, which took place at the Nzema Mensah Hall of the Takoradi Technical University, brought together students, the general public and sympathizers as well as representatives of the various political parties.
Speaking at the event, Suleman Anafo, a member of NDC communication team in Takoradi, stated that the NDC government considers education as a critical element in human development and will do everything possible to ensure that Ghanaians enjoy quality education.
“The NDC is talking about transformation and we are transforming various aspects of our country and education is one of the key areas. This is evident in the upgrade of Polytechnics to Technical Universities,” he said.
He added that the NDC has set up key markets to enhance trading in Ghana, which in turn is boosting investor confidence.
Joseph Cudjoe, the NPP Member of Parliament for Effia constituency, said the NPP envisages a country where hard work pays better than corruption and cutting corners. He urged the youth to vote for a party that will provide jobs for the youth at all levels.
However Daniel Essuman, PPP Parliamentary Candidate in the Sekondi constituency, noted that PPP is not only promising quality education but quality education with a purpose.
“Under the two parties who have ruled in the 4th republic, corruption has become unprecedented. PPP has a lot of plans for the Western Region including infrastructure development. PPP will use science & technology to develop crop production to stop the importation of oil palm,” Mr Essuman stated.
This year’s Y Dialogue series is geared towards the elections in December with both on-air and off-air engagements as well as social media drive with the hashtag #voteonissues. The Vote on Issues Campaign is sponsored by STAR-Ghana and supported by Global Media Alliance, e.TV Ghana and the Ghana Anti-Corruption Coalition.
