The Secretary-General for the French Football Federation (FFF), Laura Georges, has advised young footballers to also consider other career opportunities.

The former PSG Women’s player was speaking on Happy 98.9FM’s Special program to celebrate women in Sports on International Women’s Day.

Laura Georges urged young footballers to also pursue education which will be very key after their football career.

She opened up on how she got the opportunity to study in the USA whilst pursuing her career as a professional footballer.

“When I started football it was all about fun in 1996 and I didn’t think about playing as a professional footballer. I got a scholarship to study in the US. So I took Education seriously. Whilst I was playing I was still studying and I was very dedicated to both as well”, she told Ayishatu Ali Zakari on Happy Sports.

The former Bayern Munich player also advised young footballers to venture into other areas and seek for opportunities with their experience acquired after football.

“Don’t wait for people to give you an opportunity. You must seek opportunities from the FA if you have the skills and qualification. It’s our responsibility to take charge and not wait for the men to bring us those opportunities”.

“For now you don’t see a lot of women in higher sports places but we hope to see more in the future. Women have to support women. We are trying to support each other because we know how it feels to operate in a male-dominated sport”, she added.
