Former Chief of Defense Staff of the GhanaArmed Forces, Brigadier RTD. Joseph Nunoo-Mensah, has lamented over the current Ghanaian economic crisis.

According to Nunoo-Mensah, who has served as a member of both the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) government and the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), the infamous 83’ famine doesn’t come close to the present hardship.

In an interview with Samuel Eshun on the Happy Morning Show, he labelled these tough times as hell.

“Our current hardship is out of this world. The 83’ hunger doesn’t come close. What we are going through is hell. I prefer to be in hell than be in Ghana today. This is more than hell. The problem with Ghana is that we don’t produce anything but allow foreign companies to establish themselves in Ghana selling some fake goods and dangerous substances to us. We import anything from anywhere. The way we behave, you may think we’re not educated as a country. If I’m a teacher grading the last government and the recent one, I’ll grade them at 4/10 because no one is putting in the work,” he said.

He asserted that Ghanaian Presidents should be elected between the ages of 35-45. However, he believes that the youth cannot be entrusted with such responsibilities.

“We elect a president to run the country. President appoints people to run the affairs on our behalf. Then we want to sack the Minister of Finance but who put him there in the first place. Britain has elected a 43 year old person with Indian background as PM. So for me 35-45 year olds should run the affairs of the country. Unfortunately I agree with K.T Hammond when he said our youth cannot run this government. Our youth are pathetic and worse than the old men,” he added.
