Captain of Ghana’s Amputee Football team, Richard Arthur, has expressed his team’s desire to present the championship trophy to President Akuffo Addo following their triumphant victory at the 2023 African Para Games.

“Although we had less resources and support, we still fought for mother Ghana and delivered. We fought a good fight. This is our second trophy we’ve won in two years,” Captain Arthur stated proudly, in an exclusive interview on Happy FM’s Wamputu Sports with Odiasempa Kwame Oware, reflecting on their remarkable journey to victory.

The Black Challenge’s remarkable performance in the tournament culminated in a gripping final showdown at the MacDan Park in Accra, where they secured a 2-1 victory over Morocco, securing the championship title.

The victory held special significance for the Ghanaians, as it was a sweet redemption after they had previously suffered a 2-1 defeat to Morocco during the group stage of the competition.

Captain Arthur and his team showcased exceptional resilience and determination to bounce back and claim the ultimate prize.

However, despite their incredible achievement, Captain Arthur revealed that they had not yet had the opportunity to meet with authorities since their victory. “We are still at the hotel waiting,” he shared.

The captain expressed his gratitude to the people of Ghana for their unwavering support, but he also emphasized the need for more support to further develop amputee football in the country.
