Deputy Attorney, General Alfred Tuah Yeboah has announced a significant move in the ongoing legal saga surrounding Nana Appiah Mensah, commonly known as NAM 1, the CEO of the now-defunct Menzgold Ghana Limited.

The Deputy Attorney General’s office plans to apply for daily hearings in NAM 1’s case, which has been marked by 39 counts of fraud and money laundering and has dragged on for several years.

Addressing the press on Tuesday, September 19, Tuah Yeboah stated that the objective behind seeking daily hearings is to expedite the legal process and bring closure to the victims who were allegedly defrauded by NAM 1.

“We are of the humble opinion that this is a matter that we must apply to the courts for an expedited hearing, so at the case management, we will put up that application and request to the court, subject to the court’s convenience to have this matter heard on a daily basis,” Tuah Yeboah explained.

This development comes on the heels of Nana Appiah Mensah’s recent release on bail. The CEO was granted bail in the amount of GH¢500 million with four sureties, none of which are required to be justified. He has also been ordered to deposit his passport at the court registry as part of the bail conditions.

NAM 1’s plea of not guilty to the 39 charges of fraud and money laundering, which he is facing alongside Menzgold Ghana Limited and Brew Marketing Consult, paved the way for this bail decision.

NAM 1’s defense attorney, Kwame Akuffo, had successfully argued for the maintenance of the GH¢5 million bail condition without justification, which had been initially set during the case’s earlier proceedings at the circuit court before the state entered a nolle prosequi.

Although Deputy Attorney General Alfred Tuah Yeboah did not oppose the bail application, he insisted on the accused depositing his passport as an additional precaution. Tuah Yeboah also urged the court to take into account the substantial amount of GH¢1.68 billion involved in the case.

In light of these developments, the judge presiding over the case granted bail to Nana Appiah Mensah with the stipulated conditions, and Mensah has been directed to report to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) headquarters every Thursday.
