I’m proud Bono; Your Juju can’t kill me – Maj. Gen Oppong Peprah to Colleagues

Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Major General Thomas Oppong-Peprah has said he is a victim of juju in the military but won’t die because he is a proud Bono from Dormaa Ahenkro.

The Major General has been a subject of controversy in recent times but speaking to his troops responding to allegations against him, the Army Chief said he won’t go anywhere.

Oppong Peprah is said to be blocking a shake up in the military command by his refusal to move on after serving his tenure.

Major General Oppong-Peprah’s appointment to the position by President Akufo-Addo replacing Major General William Azure Ayamdo was announced on February 12, 2020 and took effect from February 18, 2020. Reports say next month, Oppong Peprah would be four years as Army Commander.

Notably, Major Generals Clayton Boanuba Yaache, Joseph Narh Adinkra, Samuel Odotei, William Azure Ayamdo, and Richard Opoku Adusei, were promptly replaced upon reaching their fixed terms.

However, an anomaly emerged with Major General Oppong-Peprah, whose term officially ended on February 18, 2023, yet has remained in office for nearly four years, raising concerns among both current and former military officers. Some of whom, his seniors, had been sent out as Defense Attaché in Ghana’s Missions abroad to have him elevated to Army Commander.

But reacting to this, Maj. General Oppong Peprah said he has been a victim of juju because of his work as Army Chief.

“A publication was sent to me. They call it opera news or something. I have been taken to juju people and all that and we have pictures of it. One of the military police brought it to me.” He said in an address to troops.

“I am still standing here. I am not dead and I will not die. If you cannot cope up with what I do, sit down and zip up. They claim I am an Akyem but I am a Bono I am very proud from Dormaa Ahenkoro. we speak the b3b3 I love it” He added.

The Army Chief is said to be working against potential changes in the leadership of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) because Oppong Peprah is refusing to become the CDS as replacement for Seth Amoama whose retirement is said to be imminent.

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Major General Thomas Oppong-Peprah, is refusing to take the CDS position ostensibly because he is “enjoying” the COAS role.

As Chief of Army Staff, all his predecessors vacated their roles upon completing their mandatory three-year terms.

Some point to his marital ties to President Nana Akufo-Addo’s family, suggesting political influence, while others cite financial motives, highlighting substantial unaccounted-for funds flowing through the COAS office.
