The Ejisu constituency are set to cast their votes for a new Member of Parliament today, April 30, 2024 to replace the late John Kumah who was elected on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP)
Appointed as deputy Minister of Finance, John Kumah was also elected as NPP candidate ahead of the December 2024 polls.
The Electoral Commission (EC), indicate that the constituency votes are expected to go beyond 92,000. Figures collated by the EC in the 2020 election record that John Ampotuah Kumah (NPP) polled 68, 326 votes (representing 82.83% of the total votes cast) with his closest contender, George Kwame Huze (NDC) trailing with 14,164 votes (representing 17.17% of the total votes cast)
Reporters confirm that the opposition, National Democratic Congress (NDC), refused to provide a candidate on account of their keen focus on winning the upcoming 2024 general elections.
Per the Electoral Commission (EC), six aspirants are currently contesting for the vacant seat; with three candidates backed by respective parties and three others independently contesting. The list in order of appearance on the ballot paper is as follows; 1.Esther Osei (CPP)
2.Kwabena Boateng (NPP)
3.Beatrice Boakye (LPG)
4.Kwabena Owusu Aduomi (Independent)
5.Gabriel Agyemang Joseph (Independent)
6.Attakorah Joseph (Independent)
The elections will be held under strict watch of the Ghana Police Service. News sources say that 7,000 police officers are set to be deployed to ensure a free and fair election.
