Deputy Chairman of the Electoral Commission in charge of Corporate Services, Dr. Bossman Asare has reassured Ghanaians that the voter register for the 2024 election is robust and credible.

Dr. Bossman Asare has emphasized that voter exhibition exercises are conducted to correct errors in the voter register.
According to him, if the register were flawless, the law would not require such corrections.

At a press briefing on illegal voter transfers to the Pusiga Constituency on Monday, September 2, 2024, Dr. Bossman Asare highlighted that the exhibition process allows voters to verify and correct any mistakes in their details.
He pointed out that this practice has been in place since 1992.

“Everyone who registered to vote will find their names in the register with accurate information”.

He also addressed concerns about discrepancies in the voter numbers, explaining that some figures exceeded expectations due to the inclusion of people who transferred their votes in 2020 and 2023. He emphasized that this does not compromise the integrity of the voter register.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has formally requested an emergency meeting with the Electoral Commission to address issues related to the ongoing voters’ exhibition exercise.

In a letter signed by the party’s General Secretary, Fifi Kwetey, the NDC expressed concern over “very serious discrepancies” that have been identified during the 2024 voter exhibition process. The party’s analysis of the provisional voter register has uncovered numerous discrepancies that they believe require immediate attention.

In response, the Electoral Commission has scheduled the requested meeting for September 6, 2024.
