The Minister for Roads and Highways, Francis Asenso-Boakye, has issued a stern warning against the defacement of public road infrastructure across the country with unauthorized advertisements and posters.

Speaking at the commissioning of the Flowerpot Interchange earlier today, November 19, in Accra, the Member of Parliament for the Bantama Constituency expressed concern over these indiscriminate acts. “Public road infrastructure across the country is being defaced by unauthorized advertisements and notices. This includes the indiscriminate installation of outdoor advertisement structures such as billboards and signposts on meanders and at intersections, as well as the posting of notices on road signs and controllers,” he stated.

Asenso-Boakye emphasized that these actions are strongly condemned by the ministry as they pose significant dangers to road users. “These practices do not only contravene regulatory provisions but also compromise road safety, diminish the aesthetic value of our public spaces, and lead to misinformation for road users,” he explained.

Addressing the Advertising Association of Ghana, the minister urged the organization to uphold its mandate and ensure compliance with the law to end such practices. “I take this opportunity to urge the Advertising Association of Ghana to enforce its code of conduct on outdoor advertisement and call on assemblies and the Ghana Police Service to work collaboratively with the National Roads Authority to ensure compliance and preserve the integrity of our road infrastructure,” he added.
