Janet Nabla, flagbearer of the People’s National Party (PNP) in 2024 election has strongly criticized President John Mahama’s handling of the Chief Justice’s removal, calling it a reckless disregard for women in governance.

Speaking at a joint press conference titled “Save the Judiciary Demo” at the NPP’s headquarters in the Greater Accra Region, Madam Nabla accused President Mahama of violating due process.

According to her, President Mahama bypassed legal procedures when a petition was filed against the Chief Justice, opting instead to rush the matter to the Council of State.

She further alleged that President Mahama ignored a court injunction and proceeded with suspending the Chief Justice, undermining the judiciary’s authority.

In addition to these concerns, Madam Nabla condemned the president’s refusal to implement the Affirmative Action law, which mandates a 30% representation of women in governance.

She highlighted that under Mahama’s administration, women currently occupy only 10% of cabinet positions, 16% of ministerial roles, and 14% of deputy ministerial appointments. Madam Nabla claimed that women in leadership are being systematically removed through unconstitutional measures.

Calling on all Ghanaians, especially women, to rise against what she described as tyranny and injustice, Madam Nabla urged mass participation in efforts to safeguard democratic institutions and uphold the rule of law.
