Ketu-South residents did not block Ketu-Aflao road in protest - Denu Police Commander clarifies

DSP Joseph Nakoja, Denu Police Commander, Volta Region, has explained that residents of Salakope are on the Keta-Afloa road obstructing traffic flow because they have nowhere to go.

According to him, the residents did not block the road in protest as earlier reported in the media

He noted that tidal waves over the weekend rendered the residents homeless and the only dry land they could occupy is the Ketu-Afloa road.

Speaking in an interview on the Happy Morning Show he said, “The whole community has been wiped off, the sea came to clear all the properties and buildings in the area so the only space is the road and that is why you see the residents hanging on the road. They don’t have anywhere else to go so the youth didn’t mean to block the road they had no space to move and hang on that’s why they find themselves on the street”.

He emphasized that, the residents are unhappy with the delay in the construction of the Blekusu Sea Defence project.

“Almost all the community members especially those who could not go anywhere else can be found on the road.
The community is sitting in between the sea and the lagoon and the sea has pushed them to the road so if you cross the road to the other side it’s the lagoon. There is no other open space or grounds to go and settle”.

“The situation is not the best. We calmed the situation and also controlled the traffic on the road so it is currently normal. We’re still finding a way to help them and keep them safe on the road” he added.

He mentioned that they have informed authorities like NADMO and the municipal assembly to come to the aid of the people and see what they can do to provide a temporal solution.

DSP Nakoja appealed to authorities to quickly come to their aid and assured that he and his men will be on grounds to ensure the safety of residents.
