The Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives’ Association (GRNMA) has reiterated its commitment to its ongoing industrial action, warning that both Outpatient Department (OPD) and Emergency Services will be affected if their demands are not met.

In a communiqué issued to media houses, the Association expressed frustration over what it described as “intimidation, divisive and false narratives” aimed at undermining its cause.

The leadership urged the Ministry of Health to redirect its efforts towards securing approval of the Collective Agreement from the Ministry of Finance and implementation by the government.

According to GRNMA, the Collective Agreement was signed in May 2024, but has yet to be implemented. The Association emphasized that the industrial action is rooted in a just cause and is focused on securing improved terms of service for nurses and midwives nationwide.

It also encouraged members to strictly follow the roadmap of the strike and emphasized that OPD and Emergency Services would be withdrawn simultaneously if necessary.

The communiqué further instructed Rotation and Trainee nurses to take part in the strike due to their direct supervision requirements and potential liabilities for errors.

GRNMA leadership also extended appreciation to the media and members of Parliament who have supported their cause. They called on Parliament to intervene before a nationwide shutdown of nursing and midwifery services by June 9, 2025.
