President John Dramani Mahama has announced the immediate cancellation of all fuel allowances and fuel allocations to political appointees as part of a broader effort to reduce government spending and reallocate resources to priority areas.

In a statement issued by the Minister for Government Communications and Presidential Spokesperson, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the Presidency explained that the directive forms part of a comprehensive expenditure control agenda.

“The directive forms part of a broader curb in government expenditure aimed at cutting cost and channeling public funds into priority areas,” the statement noted.

The President emphasized that leadership must set the tone in sharing the burden of national sacrifices, particularly as citizens are called upon to adjust to ongoing economic measures.

He stated this latest directive follows earlier moves to reduce the size of government, including limiting the number of ministers and trimming down the Presidential Office staff.

Additionally, satellite TV subscriptions for the Presidency and other government institutions have been canceled.

“The latest cost-cutting measure follows sweeping reductions in the size of government through the appointment of fewer Ministers and Presidential Office Staff. Other measures have included stopping satellite TV subscriptions for offices at the Presidency and other government facilities,” the statement read.
