Ghana’s mobile money sector continues to show remarkable resilience and growth, with total transactions hitting GHC354.1 billion in August 2025, according to the Bank of Ghana’s latest Summary of Economic and Financial Data.
Although the figure marks a slight dip from GHC355.4 billion recorded in July, the surge in transaction volumes and user activity underscores the deepening role of mobile payments in the country’s financial ecosystem.
Transaction volumes jumped to 831 million in August, up from 778 million the previous month reflecting a steady rise in digital payment adoption.
The number of registered mobile money accounts climbed to 77.7 million, with 25.1 million active users, signalling continued progress in financial inclusion.
The ability to transfer funds across different mobile networks also saw gains, with GHC4.9 billion in cross-network transactions and 26.4 million transfers recorded.
Despite economic headwinds such as currency fluctuations and fiscal tightening, analysts say the consistent growth in mobile money usage highlights strong consumer trust and positions digital payments as a cornerstone of Ghana’s financial infrastructure.
