The flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress, John Dramani Mahama, has urged government to address the growing insecurity in the country.

According to the former President, the current wave of kidnappings and other violent crime is bad for the image of the country.

The former president’s comment comes after some two Canadians were rescued by the country’s security forces after they were kidnapped in Kumasi.

Their kidnap followed that of another Indian Businessman who was also kidnapped in the Ashanti region.

Two months ago a foreign diplomat was also rescued at Lashibi after he was kidnapped by some Nigerians at Cantonments in Accra.

Three girls who were also kidnapped in Takoradi in the Western region between August and November 2018, have still not been found despite the arrest of a Nigerian suspect who is currently behind bars.

Speaking at the funeral service of the late Daffiama/Bussie/Issa Constituency Chairman of the NDC, Richard Bayiviela Puolabong, who was shot dead by unidentified gunmen, Mr. Mahama said Ghanaians do not feel safe under the current Akufo-Addo led administration.

“Unfortunately this is a reflection of the current insecurity that exist in our country…people are afraid of their lives because armed robbers have become a holding, going on rampage and ambushing people in places yu don’t even expect.

“So we urge the Akufo-Addo administration to be up and doing, it is the duty of government to secure the lives of its citizens, we cannot continue to live in fear,” the former President said.
