On this day 21 April 1996 (Exactly 24 years ago today) Former Ghanaian sprinter, Ibrahim Hassan, who competed in the 1996 Summer Olympics run a national 400m record of 43.18 seconds at the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, California, USA.

On this day 21 April 2009 (Exactly 11 years ago today) Liverpool returned to the top of the Premier League after an Anfield classic against Arsenal – but Andrey Arshavin’s remarkable four-goal haul delivered a serious blow to their title ambitions.

On this day 21 April 2006 (Exactly 14 years ago today) Tele Santana da Silva ,a Brazilian football manager and former player (right winger) died at the age of 74 after failing to overcome an intestinal infection.

Telê was the manager responsible for putting together the 1982 and 1986 Brazil national squads. The 1982 squad in particular is remembered as one of the greatest teams in football history not to win the World Cup. It included players such as Zico, Sócrates, Falcão, Júnior and Toninho Cerezo

On this day 21 April 2010 (Exactly 19 years ago today) Juan Antonio Samaranch died of cardiac- respiratory failure in the Hospital Quiron in Barcelona at the age of 89, having suffered ill health for several years prior to his death.

He was the seventh president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) from 1980 to 2001. Samaranch served the second longest term as the head of the IOC, the longest being that of Pierre de Courbetin (29 years)
