Acute Water Shortage hits Kumasi; residents cry over impact

Residents of Kumasi in the Ashanti Region have registered their displeasure over Ghana Water Company Limited protest leading to shortage of water.

According to the frustrated residents, getting access to water has become very difficult in some parts of Kumasi especially at Atonsu.

Some residents stated that due to the water shortage in their area, they have to walk far away from their house before they can get water.

“We don’t know the reason why they have closed the pipe, we use water for our daily activities and we don’t understand why they have closed the pipe”, one resident recounted.

One food vendor also lamented that the shortage of water is giving her a lot of problems because the required volume of water she needs is not what she is getting.

“We need water for washing the yams before we fry them. We need it for a whole lot of things when cooking because it makes our work neat”.

The shortage of water in some parts of Kumasi is as a result of the shutdown of Ghana Water Company Limited’s operation in the Ashanti Region due to their protest against the demolition of residences and property by a private developer.
