Ambassador Boateng donates 2 months’ salary to fight COVID19

Ghana’s Ambassador to China, His Excellency Edward Boateng, has followed the exemplary gesture of President Akufo-Addo by donating two months of his salary to Ghana’s COVID-19 fund.

In his broadcast to the nation on Friday night, President Akufo-Addo, among other measures, announced the establishment of a COVID-19 fund to raise money to mitigate the impact of the virus on Ghanaians who have been affected.

The President also revealed he had instructed the Controller and Accountant General to pay his next three months’ salary to support the fund.

H.E. Boateng has also followed the president’s steps and confirmed that his next two months’ salary will be paid to the COVID-19 Fund to support it. In addition to his salary, he also disclosed the donation of 20,000 masks to health centres and initiatives being implemented to consolidate donations from other Chinese firms.

Speaking in a panel discussion at a virtual idea-sharing dialogue themed, “COVID-19- Dealing with the Challenges: A dialogue With Ghanaians in China” he said: “I’ve donated my two months’ salary, March and April in the fight against COVID- 19 in addition to the masks we’re bringing to Ghana”.

He also advised Ghanaians with a quote that says “My welfare depends on your action, your action determines my wellbeing and my actions determine your wellbeing, we are a collective and that’s how we shall break the chain to contain this various. We are in this together.”

Ghana’s Vice President, Mahamudu Bawumia has also confirmed that his next three months’ salary will be paid to the COVID-19 Fund.

The Fund which will be managed by an independent board of trustees, and chaired by the former Chief Justice, Sophia Akuffo will receive contributions and donations from the public to support the needy and vulnerable as the country fights to curb the spread of the coronavirus
