The Convention People’s Party (CPP) has called on the running mate of the New Patriotic Party, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh (NAPO) for a debate to defend statements made against the impact of Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.

NAPO, while delivering a speech last week at his unveiling in Kumssi stated that, “Since Ghana’s independence in 1957 no president has performed better than President Akufo-Addo; not even your Nkrumah.”

The CPP at a press conference held on Monday, July 15 — at the Ghana International Press Conference Center, indicated that NAPO’s decision to issue an official apology was ideal and commended him for the exhibition of humility. “We believe that Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh who was able to garner the confidence and humility to apologize was a good thing, we are happy about the apology but it does not mean that we have accepted the apology.” said the Director of Communications of the CCP, Slyvester Sarpong Soprano.

Soprano, referencing the apology of NAPO which was issued Friday, July 12, noted that NAPO’s apology clarified that he did not mean to denigrate Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.

He called for an official debate on the records of Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah against the records of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo –Addo.

He highlighted that Dr. Kwame Nkrumah as the first President of Ghana, gained independence for Ghana in 1957 and has been Ghana’s most prominent when it comes to development “We would like NAPO to tell the world what President Akufo Addo has done that can compare to securing independence for the republic of Ghana.”

Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh has hereby been challenged to a debate with the CPP on Monday July, 29 at the British Council Hall. “We are challenging Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh to a debate at the British Council Hall in two weeks from today to tell us what he meant if it was not his intention to denigrate the leader of the CPP, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah. “
