Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has pledged to restructure Ghana’s national budget into a constituency-focused framework if elected president in 2028.
Speaking during a meeting with NPP executives in the Asante Akyem Zone of the Ashanti Region as part of his three-day zonal campaign tour, Dr. Bawumia said the current budget system is overly centralized and fails to adequately reflect the specific needs of local communities.
“Each constituency will see its needs reflected in the national budget. The goal is to ensure equitable development that addresses the priorities of all Ghanaians,” he stated.
The NPP flagbearer hopeful also expressed concern over the country’s limited trade infrastructure, noting that Tema remains the only duty-free zone in Ghana. He pledged that under his leadership, every regional capital would be equipped with a duty-free zone to boost trade and support business growth.
Dr. Bawumia emphasized that such reforms would not only strengthen local economies but also create fairness in resource allocation across the nation.
