The Bongo District Chief Executive, Joseph Akasake Abaa has passed away following a short illness. The cause of his death is currently unknown.
Sources close to the family reported that he died at the Upper East Regional Hospital on Sunday, February 22, 2026.
Alhaji Tahiru Aberinga, Bongo Constituency Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), confirmed the news in an interview, describing it as “shocking and unexpected.”
The late DCE was nominated by former President John Dramani Mahama and confirmed by the Bongo District Assembly in April 2025.
Prior to his appointment, Mr. Abaa served the people of Zorko-Goo-Awaah as an Assembly Member for three consecutive terms.
He also held several positions within the NDC, including Bongo Constituency Youth Organiser and later Constituency Secretary in 2022.
Outside politics, he worked as a storekeeper at Sirigu Integrated Senior High School and Zuarungu Senior High School.
Mr. Abaa’s passing is being mourned as a significant loss to the people of Bongo and the wider constituency he faithfully served over the years.
