The Member of Parliament for Effiduase Asokore, Dr. Nana Ayew Afriyie, is urging the leadership of the New Patriotic Party to release its internal report on the party’s defeat in the 2024 general elections.
A committee led by former Speaker of Parliament, Professor Mike Oquaye, compiled the report to assess the NPP’s performance and uncover the reasons behind its loss.
But the party’s Director of Communications, Richard Ahiagbah, insists the report will remain confidential and serve only internal purposes.
Dr. Ayew Afriyie disagrees. He believes making the findings public would promote transparency and restore public trust in the party.
“Let it out. Heal the people. You have lost an election, and be teased, let them use it against you. Ghanaians understand that—they will heal from that.”
He said hiding the truth does more harm than good. According to him, openly admitting defeat and explaining what went wrong can help the party rebuild its credibility.
Dr. Afriyie also pointed to internal dissatisfaction, claiming that 20 to 25 percent of party members either voted for the opposition NDC or didn’t vote at all.
Political analysts agree that any genuine party renewal must start with openness and a willingness to face uncomfortable realities.
The NPP lost the presidency to John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress and saw a significant drop in its parliamentary seats.
