Former Minister for Education and Member of Parliament for Bosomtwe, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, has officially declared his intention to contest for the New Patriotic Party (NPP)’s flagbearer position ahead of the 2028 general elections.
In a Facebook post on Wednesday, June 18, Dr. Adutwum stated that he will present himself as a candidate when the party opens nominations for its presidential primaries.
“With humility, conviction, and a resolute heart, I, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, declare my intent to run for the flagbearership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), should nominations be officially opened by the party,” he wrote.
Dr. Adutwum, widely recognized for his leadership in Ghana’s education sector, played a central role in the rollout of the Free SHS policy and championed reforms in STEM education during his tenure as Education Minister.
His announcement adds momentum to the NPP’s internal race as the party prepares for its presidential primaries scheduled for January 31, 2026.
Observers say his candidacy is expected to bring a fresh perspective to the contest, with emphasis on education, youth empowerment, and innovation-driven governance.
